Sanju Samson had to leave the field while batting during the high-stakes match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, April 16, after hurting his ribs.
He was off to a flying start, scoring 31 runs off just 19 balls with two boundaries and three sixes. Along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, he gave RR a strong start as they chased a target of 189. But in the last over of the powerplay, Samson tried to hit a googly from spinner Vipraj Nigam, missed it, and ended up injuring his ribs. The physio came out to check on him.
The ball was called a no-ball, and Samson faced the free-hit delivery, hitting it to long-off but didn’t run. Realizing the pain was too much, he decided to walk off and didn’t return to bat later. RR eventually lost the match in the Super Over.
After the game, Samson told that he’s feeling okay but didn’t feel ready to continue batting at the time. He said they’ll assess the injury properly on Thursday.
“It feels alright,” Samson said. “I just wasn’t ready to come back and bat. We’ll observe it tomorrow and see how it is.”
