Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul had a fun moment with team mentor Kevin Pietersen ahead of their IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans on Saturday, April 19, in Ahmedabad.
As the team was preparing for the game, Pietersen casually joked around and asked, “What exactly does a mentor do?” KL Rahul didn’t miss the chance to tease him, saying with a laugh, “Go to the Maldives for two weeks in the middle of the season.”
Pietersen, who’s played for several IPL teams in the past including Delhi returned to the franchise this year as a mentor. He’s been actively involved behind the scenes, even spotted giving tips to young opener Jake Fraser-McGurk.
Earlier, GT skipper Shubman Gill greeted Pietersen and asked him if he was enjoying his role. The 44-year old, clearly having a good time, smiled and responded in his usual light-hearted style.
“Bro, what’s a mentor? No one knows what a mentor is. Can you tell me what a mentor is?
Rahul in return, said:
“Mentor is someone who goes to Maldives for two weeks mid-season.”
Thanks KL, now we know what a mentor does 😂 pic.twitter.com/JXWSVJBfQS
