WWE SmackDown Results (Jan 15th, 2021) – Kevin Owens Returns, Big Change In Universal Title Match At Royal Rumble 2021
Tonight’s Friday Night Smackdown is live from WWE ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. After attacking Shinsuke Nakamura on Gauntlet Match, Jey Uso set to face Nakamura on the show. WWE also announced contract signing between Adam Pearce and Roman Reigns for their Universal Title match at Royal Rumble 2021.

– Tonight’s show opened with Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman talking about the contract for match between Reigns and Adam Pearce at Royal Rumble. Heyman didn’t like the contract and wants to add the stipulation to the match so that Reigns can be Reigns and teach Adam Pearce about fear and respect. Heyman asks Reigns for contract to take it to Pearce to make some adjustments and Reigns gave it to Paul Heyman.
– Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Jey Uso via Pinfall. After the match, Cesaro joins with Nakamura for celebrations.
– Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce talking at backstage, Paul Heyman walks upto them. Heyman hands contract to Adam Pearce and says he had life time opportunity and reveals that Adam Pearce vs. Roman Reigns match will be No Disqualification Match. Pearce looked annoying and sings the contract, saying that mean he may get injured which wants by Paul Heyman & Roman Reigns.
– Jey Uso at backstage arguing with referee Charles Robinson and says he may be lose his job if he doesn’t do it right.
– Kayla Braxton at backstage with The Street Profits and they cuts the promo about New Smackdown Tag Team Champions Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler.
– Roman Reigns and Apollo Crews at Backstage and Paul Heyman walks in with contract for the match between Roman Reigns and Adam Pearce at Royal Rumble. Heyman says Crews to stay here to watch, so that he can learn from this. Reigns asks Heyman if Pearce has signed the contract, Heyman says he is done.
But Roman Reigns says he won’t sign the contract, he wants Last Man Standing Match at Royal Rumble. Heyman says Pearce won’t agree with it but Reigns says if he won’t then Crews will make him sign. Reigns says he wants Pearce to sign the contract in the ring later and Heyman takes the contract.
– Natalya defeated Liv Morgan via Pinfall.
– King Corbin defeated Rey Mysterio via Pinfall.
– Paul Heyman walks upto Adam Pearce at Backstage, Pearce asks of Roman signed the contract. Heyman says Roman took your concern about No Disqualification Match and pitched another idea, Last Man Standing Match, Pearce looked annoyed but going to sign the contract. But Heyman stops it and says Reigns wants to done it in the ring later tonight.
– Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio had an interview at backstage about what happened on the match aganist King Corbin earlier.
– Bayley in the ring for her newest talk show “Ding Dong, Hello!” and introduced her guest The EST of WWE Bianca Belair. Bayley had bunch of questions but Belair wasn’t happy with the questions and that lead to argument between them. Then, Bayley proposes Ultimate Athlete Obstacle Course competition next week and Belair accepts the challenge.
– WWE aired the Alpha Academy segment, where Chad Gable preparing Otis for Royal Rumble Match and Daniel Bryan also joins them. Kayla Braxton at backstage with Daniel Bryan and Bryan says Alpha training is a way of boost confidence. Kayla asks about last week’s Gauntlet Match and Bryan says it’s Nakamura and he had mutual respect. Then, Cesaro interrupts and took a few shots at Daniel Bryan.
– Cesaro defeated Daniel Bryan via Pinfall.
– Kayla Braxton at backstage with Carmella and her sommelier, Reginald and cuts a promo about Smackdown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks. Suddenly, Banks attacked Carmella but Reginald save her. Banks tells that Carmella can have her title shot as long as Banks have Reginald in a match first. Banks laughs and walks off.
– Apollo Crews defeated Sami Zyan via Pinfall. After the match, Sami argues with referee about tights and Big E is laughing. Apollo Crews grabs Intercontinental title from Big E, then, Big E stood up and says keep playing it and see what happens. Crews throws the title to Big E and had argument with him.
– Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman and Jey Uso walks upto the ring for the contract signing and Adam Pearce also came out, sat silently in the chair. Then, Paul Heyman grabs the chair for Reigns but Reigns says he wants Adam Pearce’s chair. Then, Heyman asks Pearce to get up but Jey grabs him out and Reigns sat on that chair.
Pearce grabs another chair and sits on it. Pearce signs the contract and Reigns also signs the contract. Adam left the ring and walking on the ramp but suddenly he is limping. Adam stops at the entrance and says his leg is hurting all day long, maybe he’s medical not cleared to compete. But it was his job to find the worthy opponent for him at Royal Rumble 2021.
Then, he introduced Kevin Owens and he signs the contract, it’s official Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens for Universal Title in Last Man Standing Match at Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Roman Reigns isn’t happy with it and Kevin Owens taunts him from the entrance and Smackdown goes off air.
