The WWE universe was abuzz with controversy after David Otunga, son of WWE Hall of Famer Jim “Hacksaw” Duggan, made some shocking claims about John Cena’s behavior backstage. But not everyone is buying what Otunga is selling – especially not WWE Hall of Famer, Booker T.
In a recent interview, David Otunga made some scathing remarks about John Cena, claiming he was a “punk a**” who would often disregard the company’s rules and disrespect his colleagues. But according to Booker T, Otunga’s allegations are nothing but a desperate attempt to get attention.
“I’m not surprised by what David said, to be honest,” Booker T said in an exclusive interview with PWInsider. “He’s been trying to get back in the spotlight for a while now, and what better way to do it than by trashing one of the biggest stars in the business? I mean, come on, John Cena is a legend, and he’s always been a stand-up guy. If David’s got a problem with him, then maybe he should take it up with John directly, instead of running his mouth on social media.”
Booker T’s comments are significant, given his own history with John Cena. The two have had their share of memorable feuds over the years, but Booker T has always spoken highly of Cena’s work ethic and dedication to the sport.
“John Cena is one of the most genuine guys you’ll ever meet,” Booker T continued. “He’s always been a team player, and he’s always put the company first. If David’s got a problem with him, then maybe he should take a long, hard look in the mirror and ask himself what he’s done to contribute to the WWE. Because from where I’m sitting, John Cena is still one of the top stars in the business, and he’s still bringing in the crowds. So, I think David’s just trying to get attention, plain and simple.”
But what do other WWE superstars think about the controversy? PWInsider spoke to several sources close to the matter, and the consensus is that Otunga’s comments were unnecessary and unprofessional.
“David’s been trying to get back in the WWE for a while now, and he’s been looking for any way to get attention,” a source close to the situation revealed. “He’s been reaching out to old friends and acquaintances, trying to get a foot in the door, but nobody’s biting. So, he’s resorting to making inflammatory comments like this, just to get people talking about him. It’s a desperate move, and it’s not going to end well for him.”
Another source confirmed that Otunga’s comments have caused tension backstage, with some superstars speaking out against his behavior.
“David’s got a lot of friends in the WWE, but this move has alienated a lot of people,” the source said. “He’s lost a lot of respect, and it’s going to take a long time for him to regain it. I mean, if you’re going to trash one of the biggest stars in the business, you’d better be prepared for the consequences. And right now, David’s consequences are just getting started.”
Meanwhile, John Cena has thus far avoided commenting on the controversy, preferring to let his work speak for itself. But according to sources close to the situation, Cena is not happy about Otunga’s comments, and he’s considering taking action.
“John’s not one to let things slide,” a source revealed. “He’s a proud guy, and he likes to stand up for himself. So, if David’s got a problem with him, then maybe he should be prepared for a response. John’s not going to let someone like David Otunga run his mouth about him and get away with it. He’ll take care of it, and he’ll make sure that everyone knows what’s what.”
As the controversy continues to simmer, one thing is clear: David Otunga has made a lot of enemies in the WWE, and it’s going to take a long time for him to regain their trust. But for now, Booker T’s words sum it up perfectly: “If you’re going to trash one of the biggest stars in the business, you’d better be prepared for the consequences. And right now, David’s consequences are just getting started.”
