Chelsea Green, the WWE Superstar known for her tenacity both inside and outside the ring, has reignited her very public dispute with Fairmont Hotels more than a year after a humiliating incident stained her reputation. The fallout began in April 2024, when Green was mistakenly profiled as an escort by hotel security at The Plaza in New York City. Now, with the hotel chain withdrawing a previously offered apology gift, the controversy has taken a new turn, and Green isn’t holding back.
The Infamous Incident: Chelsea Green Mistaken for an Escort
During an outing with fellow WWE star Maxxine Dupri before a Broadway show, Chelsea Green and Dupri were abruptly removed from the bar at The Plaza Hotel by security guards who insinuated they were “ladies of the night,” simply based on their appearance and attire. Green recounted the moment on the Gabby AF podcast, describing the incident as ridiculous since she had worn even more revealing outfits in the past without incident.
Man… one night you’re wrestling at Barclays Center, having the time of your life and the next you’re being kicked out of @FairmontHotels and accused of being an escort because of your outfit😵💫

Life is funny! Maybe next year I won’t celebrate Wrestlemania weekend at The Plaza… pic.twitter.com/U2oDSOfMj7
“For anyone who doesn’t know, I walked into the Fairmont Plaza in New York City. I tried to have a drink at the bar with Maxxine before a Broadway show. We got kicked out. The bodyguards basically surrounded us and insinuated that we were ladies of the night which was crazy because I’ve worn way smaller clothes,” Green said. This shocking profiling embarrassed the WWE star and sparked a social media firestorm, drawing attention to issues of judgment and discrimination by hospitality staff[2][5].
An Apology Made and Then Retracted
In response to Green’s public outcry, Fairmont Hotels initially issued a verbal apology and offered a “gift certificate” for a two-night stay at any Fairmont location worldwide. As Green revealed in her initial post back in April 2024, the hotel chain seemed to be making amends for their unjust actions.
However, more than a year later, Green revealed that this offer was effectively rescinded. When she attempted to redeem the gift certificate for a mother-daughter trip to London, she was told the certificate had expired and that it was only valid at Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver—a detail never clearly communicated in the initial offer.
In an email shared by Green from Andrea Escobar, Executive Assistant at The Plaza, the hotel formally stated that they could not honor the certificate outside of the specific Vancouver location and that it had expired due to validity limits set at 12 months from the issue date.
“Regrettably, we are unable to change the location of the certificate as this was honored by our sister Fairmont, Pacific Rim in Vancouver, and it is non-transferable. In addition, I regret to inform you that the validity of this certificate has since expired as it is valid within 12 months of issued date,” the email read[1][2].
Green sarcastically commented on the reversal through social media:
“Remember this? @FairmontHotels offered me a two night stay anywhere… after calling me an escort lol. Now they’re taking it back. 🤣” adding, “You just can’t make this sh!t up… @FairmontHotels 😅”[1][4].
WWE Insider Weighs In On The Fallout
According to sources close to WWE management, Chelsea Green’s frustration is understandable, especially as a public figure who travels extensively for her career. “Chelsea has always been professional, but this incident struck a nerve because it was deeply personal and unfair. The fact that the hotel attempted to sweep it under the rug and then withdrew their offer just added insult to injury,” a WWE insider revealed.
The insider further noted that instances like this damage the image of both the talent and the venues involved. “WWE stars like Chelsea are ambassadors wherever they go. When a hotel humiliates one of their own, it threatens future partnerships and might even affect where talent chooses to stay while on the road,” the insider added.
Chelsea Green’s Stance Moving Forward
Currently off WWE television while on a vacation with her husband Matt Cardona, Green has made it clear she will not let the Fairmont incident fade into obscurity.
During her recent podcast appearance, she expressed her disappointment and called out the hotel chain’s backtracking as unfair and disrespectful. For a company that markets itself as a luxury hospitality brand, Green’s experience demands accountability and transparency.
Based on her publicly voiced stance, Green’s loyalty to the Fairmont brand is now effectively severed. Industry observers speculate this controversy might dissuade other WWE talent from engaging with the chain, especially given their global travel schedules.
Broader Implications for Hospitality and Celebrity Treatment
Green’s case highlights a growing awareness around how celebrities, especially women, are perceived and treated in luxury environments. Mistaken profiling, such as what Green experienced, risks reinforcing stereotypes and contributes to a toxic culture of judgment based on appearance rather than character.
Her vocal criticism is also part of a larger dialogue within the wrestling and entertainment industries, where personal respect and dignity are paramount.
What’s Next for Chelsea Green?
While Green focuses on recovery and personal time off, insiders reveal she is weighing future career moves beyond wrestling, including potential Hollywood aspirations a path she has previously discussed with John Cena and other WWE legends.
Her willingness to speak out on this issue is an indication of her evolving role as a public figure who stands up not only for herself but for others who might find themselves similarly mistreated.
