Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been absolutely on fire away from home, and they showed no signs of slowing down as they secured their sixth away win with a dominant six-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 27, at the Arun Jaitley International Stadium in New Delhi.
Delhi Capitals, batting first, could only manage 162/8 in their 20 overs, thanks to some fantastic bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/33) and Josh Hazlewood (2/36). RCB’s chase didn’t get off to the best start, though, with the score at 26/3 after losing three quick wickets. But Krunal Pandya stood tall with an impressive knock of 73 runs off 47 balls. Alongside him, Virat Kohli played a steady hand, contributing 51 runs from 47 balls. Together, they steered RCB to victory, making sure they finished with another much-needed win.
This victory not only gave RCB their seventh of the season but also propelled them to the top of the points table with 14 points and a solid net run rate of +0.52. To make sure they secure a playoff spot, they only need to win one of their next four games, which would bring them up to the 16-point mark, typically enough to qualify.
But there’s more to aim for. Finishing in the top two spots on the table offers an extra opportunity in the playoffs even if you lose in Qualifier 1, you get another shot. So, RCB will be eyeing three wins from their next four games to reach 20 points and solidify their place in the top two. While 18 points should also be sufficient, they’ll need to keep an eye on net run rates, as teams chasing them could still close in.
