The People’s Champ The Rock showed up in WWE on last week’s Friday Night SmackDown and came face to face with Roman Reigns, indicating The Rock vs Roman Reigns at WretsleMania 40. We got a backstage update regarding when WWE decided to go in this direction.

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes won the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble and earned the title shot at WrestleMania 40. Following the match, he also pointed towards Roman Reigns which almost confirmed that Cody was going to pick Reigns to finish the story.

But on the recent edition of Friday Night SmackDown Cody Rhodes said that he will finish his story but not at upcoming WrestleMania and introduced The Rock, who came face to face with Roman Reigns. With those events, company almost confirms that Roman Reigns will face The Rock with his title on line at WrestleMania. This also got huge backlash on the social media.

According to the new report for Fightful Select, The Rock vs Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 was the plan from January 3rd. The same was told to the creative team and merchandise produced to promote the match.

This report also added that there were meetings held on January 1st and people informed Cody Rhodes that plans for him to face Roman Reigns unchanged. However, those plans were changed the week before Royal Rumble and only a few selected people were informed about this altered plan during the Royal Rumble weekend.
