Roman Reigns Originally Not Slated To Pushed As Undisputed WWE Universal Champion

The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns becoming the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion was not part of the original plan for his current run.

Roman Reigns won the Universal Championship at Payback 2020 in a Triple Threat Match by defeating Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman. At WrestleMania 38, he defeated The Beast Brock Lesnar to become the Undisputed WWE Universal champion.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select (h/t: Comicbook.com), Roman Reigns was never meant to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. The original plan for The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns was to defend the Universal Title against Brock Lesnar at Day 1, 2022 Premium Live Event.

But when Reigns tested positive for COVID-19 before the event, that match got cancelled and a new plan was created. Brock Lesnar went on to win the WWE Championship and faced off against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38.
