When RETRIBUTION faction debuted in WWE in 2020, there were two women wrestlers in the group, Mia Yim and Mercedes Martinez. Later Mercedes left from the stable and Mia Yim debuted with Reckoning name.

Recently, Mercedes Martinez returned to WWE NXT and attacked NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai setting her sight on title. 

Last year it was reported that Martinez requested the company to be removed from the masked faction and move back to NXT. Now, she revealed the more details regarding the situation.

The NXT Superstar Mercedes Martinez recently had an interview with Mike Johnson of PWInsider and spoke about her exit from the RETRIBUTION faction. 

Here what Mercedes Martinez said: “I was given an opportunity and I took the opportunity. Not knowing what the outcome would be. You got to make the best of everything you can, but I think when that opportunity came, it wasn’t for me. When you hit the pinnacle of your career, as I did, hitting 20 years, you want to make the most of your career, and make it part of a legacy…I just think being part of that group, it’s not hidden fact that it was me, I don’t hide the fact, I don’t mention it, only because it was just a small part of what the bigger picture is.” 

Martinez also mentioned that it doesn’t fit to her career and there were no hurt feelings with WWE over her exit from group. And she also wished them with all success in future.

On this week’s Wednesday Night NXT, Mercedes Martinez will team up with Toni Strom to face Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter in first round of inaugural Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
