Few days back, WWE annouced that Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Rey Mysterio in Hell In A Cell match on this Sunday. But surprisingly, WWE moved that match to Friday Night Smackdown this week.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that there were no involved reason that make any sense to move the match but there were many discussions that lead the match to move for Friday Night Smackdown. Currently, the plan is to Roman Reigns to not wrestle at Pay-Per-View.
”As far as what happened, there’s no involved reason that made any sense. The word we were told is that you can’t describe why, there were just a bunch of discussions on Thursday and the discussions ended up with ‘Let’s do it on Smackdown.’ As of press time, the plans were for Reigns to not be wrestling on the pay-per-view,” said Meltzer.
“This match seems more about putting Reigns in with a great worker and allowing him to play bully heel, give Rey some hot spots and near falls, but in the end I don’t think anyone expects Reigns to lose,” Meltzer explained.
It’s all started when Rey Mysterio called out Roman Reigns on his Twitter that he can’t wait for Sunday and wants that match on Smackdown. Roman Reigns also accepted his challenge and WWE made it official for the Friday.
On tonight’s WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns successfully defended Rey Mysterio in a brutal match up by forcing Rey Mysterio to submit and once again showed his dominance as the Universal Champion.
